Wellington Corporation and College Land Exchange Act 1888

An Act to enable the Governors of the Wellington College and Girls' High School to convey to the Mayor, Councillors, and Citizens of the City of Wellington a certain Piece of Land for the Purpose of widening a Street in the said City called College Lane, and to enable the said Mayor, Councillors, and Citizens to convey to the said Governors another Piece of Land in exchange therefor.

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1 Short Title
  • The Short Title of this Act is The Wellington Corporation and College Land Exchange Act 1888.

2 Wellington College Governors may convey land to Corporation
  • It shall be lawful for the Governors of the Wellington College and Girls' High School to convey to the Mayor, Councillors, and citizens of the City of Wellington, in exchange for the piece of land described in Schedule 2 hereto, the piece of land described in Schedule 1 hereto; to be held by the Corporation for the purpose of widening a street in the said city called College Lane.

3 Wellington Corporation may convey land to College Governors
  • It shall be lawful for the Corporation to convey to the Governors of the Wellington College and Girls' High School, in exchange for the land described in Schedule 1 hereto, the piece of land described in Schedule 2 hereto; to be held by the said Governors upon the like trusts and for the same purposes as those upon and for which the land described in Schedule 1 hereto was held by them immediately prior to the passing of this Act.


Schedule 1

A PARCEL of land situate in the City of Wellington, being the part of Lot No 6 of Sir George Grey's Reclamation, vested in the said Governors, and a parcel of land in the same city, being Lot No 24 on the plan deposited in the Lands Registry Office, and there numbered 331; the land comprising which two parcels is bounded on the south by College Lane for 200 ft; on the east by Victoria Street, 25ft; on the west by Willis Street, 25ft; and on the north by other part of the said Lot No 6 and by Lot No 23 on the said deposited plan.

Schedule 2

A PARCEL of land situate in the said city, being either the whole of Lot 28 and a portion of Lot 29 or a part of Lot 29 on the said deposited plan, and having a frontage to Victoria Street of 75ft, with a depth equal to that of the said lands; such parcel to be selected by the said Governors in one plot, and to commence either from the north-east corner of Lot No 29 or from the north-west corner of Lot No 28, the side line to be drawn parallel to the eastern boundary of Lot No 29 or to the western boundary of Lot No 28, as the selection may be made.
