Wellington City Streets Act 1899

An Act to enable the Council of the City of Wellington to take over certain existing Private Streets and Rights-of-way and to extend Streets.

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1 Short Title
  • The Short Title of this Act is The Wellington City Streets Act 1899.

2 Existing private streets may be declared public streets
  • It shall be lawful for the Council of the City of Wellington, in the manner and subject to the conditions mentioned in section two hundred and sixty-five of The Municipal Corporations Act 1886, to declare any now-existing private street or right-of-way laid out in the City of Wellington, and of whatever width, to be a public street of such city, and thereupon such private street or right-of-way shall become a public street accordingly:

    Provided that such private street or right-of-way shall have been laid out prior to the date of the coming into force of The Municipal Corporations Act 1886.
