Auckland Girls' Grammar School Act 1906

An Act to vest the Control of the Auckland Girls' High School in the Auckland Grammar School Board.

  • Preamble

    WHEREAS it has been agreed between the Education Board of the district of Auckland and the Auckland Grammar School Board that the duty of providing for the secondary education of girls in the City of Auckland should devolve upon the Auckland Grammar School Board, and that all lands set apart and all other endowments heretofore made by the General Government of New Zealand for the Auckland Girls' High School should be transferred to and vested in the last mentioned Board:

BE IT THEREFORE ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, follows:—

1 Short Title
  • The Short Title of this Act is The Auckland Girls' Grammar School Act 1906.

2 Interpretation
  • In this Act the term the said Board shall mean the Auckland Grammar School Board.

3 Board to establish and maintain Girls' Grammar School in Auckland
  • It shall be the duty of the said Board to establish and maintain a separate Girls' Grammar School in the City of Auckland.

4 Schools in suburbs of the city
  • The said Board may, if it thinks fit, establish and maintain one more grammar school or schools in the suburbs of the City of Auckland, and provide for the secondary education of girls as well as boys therein.

5 Endowments vested in Board
  • For the purposes aforesaid all lands set apart, all reserves all other endowments heretofore made for establishing or maintaining girls' high schools in the City of Auckland, and all proceeds arising therefrom, are hereby transferred to and vested in the said Board.

6 Powers heretofore vested in Education Board to be exercised by Grammar School Board
  • All powers and authorities vested in the Education Board of the District of Auckland in respect of all lands set apart, all reserve and all other endowments by this Act vested in the said Board may henceforth be exercised by the said Board.

7 Section 10 of Auckland Girls' High School Act 1878, repealed
  • Section ten of The Auckland Girls' High School Act 1878, is hereby repealed, and in lieu thereof the following section shall be substituted:—

    The Board may, out of such moneys as shall come into it hands by virtue of this Act or otherwise for the benefit of the said school or schools, expend any sum or sums of money which it may think necessary in erecting suitable buildings and premises for the use of such school or schools.

8 Board, with consent of City Council, may close streets
  • It shall be lawful for the said Board, with the consent of the Mayor and Councillors of the City of Auckland, to close Park Street and Smith Street, abutting on the Girls' High School endowment in Howe Street, by this Act vested in the said Board, and to add the pieces or parcels of land occupied by such closed streets to the last mentioned endowment for the purpose of enlarging the same.
