WHEREAS the piece of land specified in Schedule 1 hereto was, by conveyance dated the eleventh day of August, eighteen hundred and eighty-six, and registered in the office of the Registrar of Deeds, at Wellington, as No 52126, vested by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company in Andrew McKenzie, William Catt, and Walter Joseph Lindop, therein described, upon trust for the purposes of a fire brigade, or for such other purposes in connection therewith or with the prevention or extinction of fire as the said conveyees, their heirs or assigns, shall think fit: And whereas the said piece of land, by reason of its inconvenient situation, is unsuitable for the purposes for which it was vested as aforesaid: And whereas an association has been formed in the Borough of Carterton (styled the Carterton Volunteer Fire Brigade) for the suppression and prevention of fires, and the said brigade has out of its own funds acquired a piece of land, specified in Schedule 2 hereto, in a convenient situation, on which it has erected a brick building suitably fitted for the housing of its plant, and for the general purposes of the said brigade: And whereas it is expedient that the piece of land specified in Schedule 1 hereto should be vested in the Mayor, Councillors, and Burgesses of the Borough of Carterton for an estate in fee-simple, and that power should be given to the said Mayor, Councillors, and Burgesses to sell the said piece of land and apply the proceeds of sale in or towards the payment of the mortgage or other debts of the said brigade:
