New Plymouth Borough Council Empowering Act 1937

An Act to empower the New Plymouth Borough Council to expend Moneys for the Maintenance and Development of the New Plymouth Borough and the District adjacent thereto as a Tourist Resort and Watering-place.

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1 Short Title
  • This Act may be cited as the New Plymouth Borough Council Empowering Act 1937.

2 Power to expend moneys in developing and advertising scenic and tourist attractions
  • (1) The New Plymouth Borough Council may from time to time apply any moneys in its General Account, not exceeding in the aggregate the sum of five hundred dollars in any one financial year, towards all or any of the following purposes:—

    • (a) The provision or doing of any thing or things which the said Council may deem necessary or desirable for the maintenance and development of the Borough of New Plymouth and the district adjacent thereto as a tourist resort and watering-place:

    • (b) The advertising of the scenic and other attractions of whatsoever description of the said borough and the district adjacent thereto by any means the Council may deem necessary or desirable:

    • (c) The making of grants of money to the New Plymouth Twenty Thousand Club, Incorporated, not exceeding in the aggregate the sum of two hundred dollars in any one financial year.

    (2) Nothing herein shall take away, restrict, or modify any power conferred upon the said Council by the Local Government Act 1974, or by any other Act.

    The references to five hundred dollars and two hundred dollars were substituted, as from 10 July 1967, for references to two hundred and fifty pounds and one hundred pounds pursuant to section 7(1) Decimal Currency Act 1964 (1964 No 27).

    The reference to the Local Government Act 1974 was substituted, as from 1 December 1974, for a reference to the Municipal Corporations Act 1933 pursuant to section 726(1) Local Government Act 1974 (1974 No 66).
