An Act to validate the continued employment by the Hastings Fire Board of Leonard Robert George Harlen as its Chief Fire Officer pursuant to a resolution of the Board passed on the 30th day of April 1969, by which Resolution the Board resolved to extend the employment of the said Leonard Robert George Harlen as Chief Fire Officer until the 25th day of February 1974
WHEREAS The Hastings Fire Board (hereinafter called the Board) did by resolution passed on the 29th day of August 1951 appoint as its Chief Fire Officer Leonard Robert George Harlen (hereinafter called the employee), the employee being at that time of the age of 40 years: And whereas by resolution bearing date the 30th day of April 1969 the Board, being aware that the employee would attain the age of 60 years on the 25th day of February 1971, did resolve that the employment of the employee as Chief Fire Officer should be extended until the 25th day of February 1974: And whereas the Fire Services (Permanent Brigadesmen) Regulations 1970 came into force on the 28th day of May 1970: And whereas by clause 5 of the said regulations it is provided that a Chief Fire Officer shall retire at the age of 60 years: And whereas the employee did attain that age on the 25th day of February 1971: And whereas consequent upon the passing of the said regulations it is no longer competent for the Board to continue to employ the employee as its Chief Fire Officer: And whereas the Board desires to continue to employ the employee as its Chief Fire Officer in terms of the said resolution of the 30th day of April 1969 during the term of employment as extended by the said resolution: And whereas it is desirable to make provision accordingly:
BE IT THEREFORE ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
