An Act to provide for the Erection of certain Public Buildings near the City of Auckland.

  • Preamble

    WHEREAS by an Act of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Auckland intituled The Public Buildings Act 1875 (hereinafter referred to as the said Act), the Superintendent of the Province of Auckland and the members of the Provincial Executive Council, together with certain members of the Provincial Council, were appointed Commissioners for the purpose of carrying out the several undertakings authorized by the said Act: And whereas the coming into operation of The Abolition of Provinces Act 1875, will render it necessary that other provision should be made for the appointment of Commissioners to carry into effect the objects of the said Act, and it is also necessary to make other alterations in the said Act:

BE IT THEREFORE ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1 Short Title
  • The Short Title of this Act shall be The Auckland Public Buildings Act 1876.

2 Four sections of said Act repealed

    Sections 2 to 5 were repealed, as from 8 September 1883, by section 7 Auckland Hospital Reserves Act 1883 (1883 No 11(L)).

3 Commissioners appointed

4 Vacancies may be supplied

5 Governor to appoint Chairman

    Sections 2 to 5 were repealed, as from 8 September 1883, by section 7 Auckland Hospital Reserves Act 1883 (1883 No 11(L)).

6 Sums to be raised not to exceed $50,000
  • The aggregate sum raised and to be raised under the said Act shall not exceed fifty thousand dollars.

    The expression fifty thousand dollars was substituted, as from 10 July 1967, for the expression twenty-five thousand pounds pursuant to section 7(1) Decimal Currency Act 1964 (1964 No 27).

7 How to be expended

8 Powers of Superintendent to be exercised by Governor

9 Coupons where payable
  • All coupons issued with the debentures under this Act shall be payable at such place as the Governor shall from time to time appoint, and notice thereof given in the New Zealand Gazette.
