Local Elections and Polls Amendment Act 1946

AN ACT to amend the Local Elections and Polls Act 1925.

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1 Short Title
  • This Act may be cited as the Local Elections and Polls Amendment Act 1946, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Local Elections and Polls Act 1925 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).

2 General elections of local authorities to be held on third Wednesday in November

    (9) The enactments specified in Schedule 1 to this Act are hereby amended in the manner indicated in that Schedule.

    Subsections (1) to (8) were repealed, as from 29 September 1950, by section 2(8) Local Elections and Polls Amendment Act 1950 (1950 No 30).

3 Notice of general election, and date for nominations

    Sections 3 to 5 were repealed, as from 27 August 1953, by section 103(1) Local Elections and Polls Act 1953 (1953 No 16).

4 Time for election to extraordinary vacancy, and date for nominations

5 Closing-hour of poll

6 Closing of rolls of electors

    (3) The enactments specified in Schedule 2 to this Act are hereby amended in the manner indicated in that Schedule.

7 Supplementary rolls in counties

    Section 7 was repealed by section 9(2)(a) Counties Amendment Act 1952 (1952 No 75).

8 County Councils and Road Boards to provide forms of claims for enrolment

    Sections 8 and 9 were repealed, as from 27 August 1953, by section 103(1) Local Elections and Polls Act 1953 (1953 No 16).

9 Abolition of occupier's qualification and of qualification as a wife or husband

10 Enrolment on roll of electors of persons on electoral rolls in respect of addresses in district of local authority

  • An item relating to the Auckland Electric Power Board Amendment Act 1937 was repealed, as from 20 October 1978, by section 111 Auckland Electric Power Board Act 1978 (1978 No 11).
