5A Term of office
  • (1) Except as provided in subsection (2) of this section and in section 5B of this Act, every member of the Council appointed under paragraph (d) or paragraph (e) or paragraph (f) of section 5(2) of this Act shall hold office for a term of 3 years from the date of the member's appointment or from such other date as may be specified in the instrument by which the member is appointed: but may from time to time be reappointed.

    (2) Upon the completion by any person of 6 years' consecutive service as a member of the Council appointed under paragraph (d) or paragraph (e) or paragraph (f) of section 5(2) of this Act, that person shall cease to be eligible for appointment as a member of the Council until after the lapse of one year during which that person did not hold office as a member of the Council.

    (3) Where the term for which the member has been appointed expires, that member, unless sooner vacating office or being removed from office under section 5B of this Act, shall continue to hold office, by virtue of the appointment for the term that has expired, until—

    • (a) That member is reappointed; or

    • (b) A successor to that member is appointed.
