(1) Any employee of the Department or of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, who is authorised for the purpose by the Director-General, may, at any reasonable time, inspect any regulated deer farm or any safari park to ensure that it complies with the requirements prescribed by or under this Act.
(2) The Director-General may recover from the permit holder the following costs in respect of any deer or other wild animal:
(a) The reasonable costs of any inspection carried out under subsection (1) of this section:
(b) The reasonable costs incurred by the Department in controlling any deer or other wild animal that escapes from any regulated deer farm or any safari park.
(3) Where the Director-General is notified of an escape within 48 hours of its occurrence, he or she may waive, in whole or in part, any costs recoverable in that case under subsection (2)(b) of this section.
Section 12A was substituted, and sections 12B and 12C were inserted, as from 25 November 1994, by section 5(1) Wild Animal Control Amendment Act 1994 (1994 No 114).
