(1) Subject to section 8D(1) of this Act, nothing in this Part of this Act affects the duty of a territorial authority to enforce the provisions of the Food Hygiene Regulations 1974 within its own district.
(2) For the purpose of fulfilling the duty referred to in subsection (1) of this section, every territorial authority shall take all reasonable steps—
(a) To inform itself as to whether or not the premises and vehicles in respect of which its duty applies—
(i) Are registered in accordance with the Food Hygiene Regulations 1974; or
(ii) Are exempt from compliance with those regulations by virtue of an exemption granted under this Part of this Act; and
(b) To keep that information up to date.
