Acts are laws made by Parliament
Every person is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or a fine not exceeding $4,000 who assaults any other person.

Section 9 was amended, as from 1 January 1998, by section 7 Summary Offences Amendment Act 1997 (1997 No 97) by substituting the expression “$4,000”
for the expression “$2,000”
