(1) Every person commits a crime who—
(c) being a person to whom a New Zealand travel document has been issued, without reasonable excuse permits another person to have possession of that document in circumstances where he or she knows or has reasonable cause to suspect that the person intends to use it for purposes of travel or identification; or
(2) Every person commits a crime who intentionally defaces or destroys a New Zealand travel document.
(3) Every person who commits an offence against subsection (1) is liable on conviction on indictment to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 10 years, a fine not exceeding $250,000, or both.
(4) Every person who commits an offence against subsection (2) is liable on conviction on indictment to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years.
