PURSUANT to the Births and Deaths Registration Act 1951, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following regulations.

  • (1) These regulations may be cited as the Births and Deaths Registration (Forms) Regulations 1953.

    (2) These regulations shall come into force on the day after the date of their notification in the Gazette.

  • (1) A certificate under the Births and Deaths Registration Act 1951 of the date of any birth or death shall be in such form set out in the Schedule hereto as is applicable to the circumstances of the case.

    (2) A certificate of birth or of death for the purposes of the Post Office Savings Bank, issued pursuant to section 41 of the Births and Deaths Registration Act 1951, shall be in such form set out in the Schedule hereto as is applicable to the circumstances of the case.

    (3) The provisions of this regulation shall apply to all births and deaths, whether of Maoris or otherwise.

    (4) The regulations made under the Births and Deaths Registration Act 1924 on the 7th day of December 1925, and published in the Gazette of the 21st day of January 1926 at page 146, are hereby revoked.

  • Every certified copy of an entry of birth under the Births and Deaths Registration Act 1951 shall be in such form as set out in the Schedule hereto as is applicable to the circumstances of the case, and shall include such particulars as are set out in the appropriate form.

    Regulation 2A was inserted, as from 1 April 1954, by regulation 2 Births and Deaths Registration (Forms) Regulations 1953, Amendment No 1 (SR 1954/35).

  • (1) Every certified copy of an entry of death shall be in either form 2 in Schedule 1 to the Births and Deaths Registration Act 1951, or in form 11 in the Schedule hereto.

    (2) Every certified copy of an entry of death shall include the particulars set out in the form used for the purpose of the copy.

    Regulation 2B was inserted, as from 1 April 1956, by regulation 2 Births and Deaths Registration (Forms) Regulations 1953, Amendment No 2 (SR 1956/35).

Explanatory note

[This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.]

Regulation 2 prescribes forms of certificates in respect of the registration of births and deaths under the Births and Deaths Registration Act 1951.

The effect of the amendment made by regulation 3 is to permit the Registrar-General to issue under his seal a certificate relating to the registration of the birth or the death of a Maori.
