Pursuant to regulation 3 of the Noxious Substances Regulations 1954, the Minister of Health hereby gives the following notice.

1 
  • (1) This notice may be cited as the Noxious Substances Notice 1959.

    (2) This notice shall come into force on the seventh day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

Substances Declared To Be Noxious Substances

Methyl bromide

Chloropicrin

Aldrin, except in preparations containing 1% or less of aldrin

Dieldrin, except in preparations containing 1% or less of dieldrin.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

The effect of this notice is that the Noxious Substances Regulations 1954 will apply to any process of making, packing, mixing, crushing, preparing, or spraying any substance specified in the Schedule to this notice, or otherwise handling it in such a way as to contaminate the air in the place (whether in a factory or elsewhere) where the handling is done.

Those regulations require certain precautions to be taken in any such process or handling, the provision and use of protective clothing, proper equipment and washing facilities, proper storage and disposal, and working hours not exceeding 10 hours a day.
