New Zealand—Australia Free Trade Agreement Order (No 2) 1977

This order is administered in the Department of Trade and Industry.


PURSUANT to section 3 of the New Zealand-Australia Free Trade Agreement Act 1965, and for the purpose of giving effect to the Agreement defined in that Act, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following order.

1 Title and commencement
  • (1) This order may be cited as the New Zealand- Australia Free Trade Agreement Order (No 2) 1977.

    (2) This order shall come into force on 1 January 1978.

2 Tariff amended
  • The Customs Tariff is hereby amended by revoking the Australian rate of duty in respect of each Tariff item specified in the Schedule hereto, being the rate of duty shown in the column of the Customs Tariff headed Other Preferential Rates of Duty, and substituting in each case the rate of duty or exemption from duty set out opposite that item in the said Schedule.

3 Consequential revocations
  • (1) The New Zealand-Australia Free Trade Agreement Order (No 2) 19751 is hereby amended by revoking so much of Schedule 2 as relates to the Australian rate of Customs duty in the column headed Other Preferential Rates of Duty in respect of Tariff items 39.03.001, 39.03.011, 53.06.003, 83.05.002, 84.22.003, 84.23.022, 84.23.026, 97.04.001.

    (2) The Customs Tariff (Composite) Amendment Order (No 5) 19752 is hereby amended by revoking so much of Schedule 2 as relates to the Australian rates of Customs duty in the column headed Other Preferential Rates of Duty in respect of Tariff item 84.30.002.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order is made for the purpose of giving effect to the New Zealand-Australia Free Trade Agreement signed on 31 August 1965.

This order reduces, from 1 January 1978, the rates of Customs duty on certain goods from Australia.
