PURSUANT to section 4(4) of the National Parks Amendment Act 1974, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following order.

1 Title
  • This order may be cited as the National Parks Amendment Act Commencement Order 1978.

2 Commencement of provisions of section 4 of National Parks Amendment Act 1974 relating to Fiordland National Park
  • Section 4 of the National Parks Amendment Act 1974, so far as it relates to the Fiordland National Park, shall come into force on the 1st day of January 1979.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

The effect of this order is to bring into force on 1 January 1979 the following provisions:

  • (a) Section 9(5) of the National Parks Act 1952 (enacted by section 4(1) of the National Parks Amendment Act 1974), authorising the Governor-General, by Order in Council, to define the boundaries of Fiordland National Park.

  • (b) The repeal by section 4(2) of the National Parks Amendment Act 1974 of Schedule 5 to the National Parks Act 1952, which defined the boundaries of the Fiordland National Park.

  • (c) The repeal by section 4(3) of the National Parks Amendment Act 1974 of section 3(a) of the National Park Amendment Act 1955, which amended Schedule 5 to the National Parks Act 1952.
