10 Radiation Safety Officers
  • (1) Subject to subclause (3) of this regulation, a licensee may appoint or procure the appointment of a person to be called a Radiation Safety Officer in respect of any radioactive material or any irradiating apparatus used by the licensee or in respect of any particular area in which that material or that apparatus may from time to time be.

    (2) Every Radiation Safety Officer shall take all reasonable steps to ensure that the requirements of the Act and of any regulations made under the Act (including these regulations), and any conditions of the licence held by the licensee appointing him or procuring his appointment are complied with, but without limiting the liability of the licensee.

    (3) Not more than one person shall be appointed to be a Radiation Safety Officer in respect of the same undertaking, the same radioactive materials, or the same irradiating apparatus at any one time or in respect of any one Period; but a person may be appointed to be the deputy of a Radiation Safety Officer to the end that the deputy shall exercise the functions of the Radiation Safety Officer on the death or incapacity or during the absence of that Radiation Safety Officer.
