Westpac Banking Corporation Act Commencement Order 1982


Note

This order is administered in the Treasury.


PURSUANT to section 1(3) of the Westpac Banking Corporation Act 1982, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following order.

1 Title
  • This order may be cited as the Westpac Banking Corporation Act Commencement Order 1982.

2 Commencement of balance of provisions of Act

Explanatory Note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order brings into force, on 1 October 1982, those provisions of the Westpac Banking Corporation Act 1982 which are not yet in force.

Those provisions—

  • (a) Transfer to Bank of New South Wales the undertaking in New Zealand of The Commercial Bank of Australia Limited; and

  • (b) Transfer to Bank of New South Wales Savings Bank (N.Z.) Limited the undertaking of The Commercial Bank Savings Bank (N.Z.) Limited; and

  • (c) Recognise the change in the name of Bank of New South Wales to Westpac Banking Corporation, which change is being effected, on 1 October 1982, by the Bank of New South Wales (Change of Name) Act 1982 of the State of New South Wales of the Commonwealth of Australia. See that Act and the Proclamation which has been made pursuant to section 2(2) of that Act and which has been published in the New South Wales Government Gazette of 27 August, 1982 at page 3902.
