Family Proceedings Act (United Nations Convention) Commencement Order 1986

This order is administered in the Department of Justice.


PURSUANT to section 1(3) of the Family Proceedings Act 1980, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following order.

1 Title
  • This order may be cited as the Family Proceedings Act (United Nations Convention) Commencement Order 1986.

2 Commencement of sections 144 to 146 and 149 of Family Proceedings Act 1980

Explanatory Note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order brings into force on 1 March 1986 sections 144 to 146 and 149 of the Family Proceedings Act 1980.

Sections 144 to 146 relate to applications for maintenance by persons residing in Convention countries.

Section 149 relates to the transmission to Convention countries of applications for maintenance by New Zealand residents.

A Convention country is a country that is a party to the United Nations Convention for the Recovery of Maintenance Abroad done at New York on the 20th day of June 1956.
