PURSUANT to section 61H of the Social Security Act 1964, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following order.

1 Title and commencement
  • (1) This order may be cited as the Social Security (Miscellaneous Rates) Order 1990.

    (2) This order shall come into force on the 1st day of October 1990.

3 Increasing advances to beneficiaries and war pensioners for repair or maintenance of home, etc

  • Schedule revoked, as from 1 April 1992, by regulation 4(b) Social Security (Rates of Benefits) Order 1992 (SR 1992/57).

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order increases, on and after 1 October 1990, the amounts of lump sum payments after death and major repairs advances and the rates of the handicapped child's and disability allowances.

The amount of the lump sum payment on death is increased from $1,478 to $1,590 for a surviving spouse, and from $739 to $795 for each surviving child and on the death of a child. The payment for an unmarried person's funeral expenses is increased from $739 to $795.

Advances to beneficiaries and war pensioners for the repair or maintenance of their homes are increased from $2,465 to $2,652.

The handicapped child's allowance is increased from $26 to $28 a week and the maximum rate of disability allowance is increased from $35 to $37.50 a week.
