Housing Corporation Amendment Act Commencement Order 1993

This order is administered in the Housing Corporation of New Zealand.


PURSUANT to section 1(3) of the Housing Corporation Amendment Act 1992, Her Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following order.

1 Title
  • This order may be cited as the Housing Corporation Amendment Act Commencement Order 1993.

2 Commencement of certain provisions of Housing Corporation Amendment Act 1992
  • Sections 2(1), 4, 5, 14, 15, and 17 of the Housing Corporation Amendment Act 1992 shall come into force on the 1st day of May 1993.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order brings into force on 1 May 1993 sections 2(1), 4, 5, 14, 15, and 17 of the Housing Corporation Amendment Act 1992.

Section 2(1) repeals the definition of the term Director-General in section 2(1) of the principal Act.

Section 4 repeals section 5 of the principal Act which relates to the office of Director-General of the Housing Corporation of New Zealand.

Section 5 repeals section 13 of the principal Act and substitutes a new section 13.

The new section empowers the Corporation to appoint employees for the purpose of carrying out its functions.

Sections 14 and 15 effect consequential amendments to sections 43A and 50(3)(b) of the principal Act as a result of the abolition of the office of Director-General.

Section 17 removes the Housing Corporation of New Zealand from Schedule 1 to the State Sector Act 1988. The Corporation will cease to be a Department of the Public Service on 1 May 1993.
