Transport (Vehicle and Driver Registration and Licensing) Amendment Act Commencement Order 1993


Note

This order is administered in the Ministry of Transport.


PURSUANT to section 1(2) of the Transport (Vehicle and Driver Registration and Licensing) Amendment Act 1992, Her Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following order.

1 Title
  • This order may be cited as the Transport (Vehicle and Driver Registration and Licensing) Amendment Act Commencement Order 1993.

2 Commencement of certain provisions of Transport (Vehicle and Driver Registration and Licensing) Amendment Act 1992
  • The Transport (Vehicle and Driver Registration and Licensing) Amendment Act 1992 (except sections 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16, 19, 21, and 22) shall come into force on the 2nd day of September 1993.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order brings into force, on 2 September 1993, sections 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 11, 13, 17, 18, and 20 of the Transport (Vehicle and Driver Registration and Licensing) Amendment Act 1992.

Section 1 is the Short Title and commencement provision.

Section 6 provides for the surrender of registration plates.

Section 7 provides that personalised registration plates are not required to be manufactured until required by the owner of the vehicle concerned.

Section 8 allows the use of subsidiary characters, messages, symbols, or slogans on registration plates, with the approval of the Registrar.

Section 11 relates to replacement certificates under the principal Act.

Section 13 empowers the making of regulations relating to the change of ownership of vehicles.

Section 17 relates to the write-off of vehicles.

Section 18 provides for registration to continue where a vehicle is being repaired, rebuilt, or restored.

Section 20 allows unlicensed persons to drive certain vehicles in an emergency.
