Pursuant to section 48(2) of the Fire Service Act 1975 (as substituted by section 3(1) of the Fire Service Amendment Act 1993), Her Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following order.

Order

1 Title and commencement

(1)

This order may be cited as the Fire Service Levy Order 1993.

(2)

This order shall come into force on 1 January 1994.

2 Rate of levy

The rate of the levy payable for the purposes of section 48(1) of the Fire Service Act 1975 in respect of property insured against fire under any contract of fire insurance made in New Zealand shall be—

(a)

for each motor vehicle (as defined in section 47B of the Fire Service Act 1975)—

(i)

where the period of the contract of fire insurance is 1 year, a uniform rate of $6.08, whether or not the contract of fire insurance specifies the sum insured:

(ii)

in the case of any other period, a pro rata proportion of the rate prescribed by subparagraph (i):

(b)

for all other property (as defined in section 47B of the Fire Service Act 1975)—

(i)

where the period of the contract of fire insurance is 1 year, 7.60 cents for every $100 of the amount for which the property is insured for the purposes of the contract of fire insurance:

(ii)

in the case of any other period, a pro rata proportion of the rate prescribed by subparagraph (i).

3 Revocation

The Fire Service Levy Order 1992 (SR 1992/388) is hereby revoked.
