Maritime Transport Act Commencement Order 1994


This order is administered in the Ministry of Transport.

PURSUANT to sections 1(2) and 221 of the Maritime Transport Act 1994, Her Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following order.

1 Title
  • This order may be cited as the Maritime Transport Act Commencement Order 1994.

2 Commencement of certain provisions of Maritime Transport Act 1994

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order brings into force, on 1 February 1995, the following provisions of the Maritime Transport Act 1994:

  • (a) Parts 1 to 16 (which relate to maritime safety and replace the Shipping and Seamen Act 1952):

  • (b) Section 222 (which contains definitions relating to marine protection) and Part 23 (which relates to plans and responses to protect the marine environment from marine oil spills):

  • (c) Sections 329 to 332 (which relate to the New Zealand Oil Pollution Fund):

  • (d) Parts 27 to 30 (which relate to the making of marine protection rules, offences, the continuation of the Maritime Safety Authority, and miscellaneous provisions):
