PURSUANT to section 1(2) of the Transport (Vehicle and Driver Registration and Licensing) Amendment Act 1992, Her Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following order.

1 Title
  • This order may be cited as the Transport (Vehicle and Driver Registration and Licensing) Amendment Act Commencement Order 1995.

2 Commencement of certain provisions of the Transport Vehicle and Driver Registration and Licensing) Amendment Act 1992
  • Sections 5(3), 5(4), and 9(2) of the Transport (Vehicle and Driver Registration and Licensing) Amendment Act 1992 shall come into force on the 31st day of March 1995.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order brings into force, on 31 March 1995, sections 5(3), 5(4), and 9(2) of the Transport (Vehicle and Driver Registration and Licensing) Amendment Act 1992.

Sections 5(3) and 5(4) amend section 7 of the Transport (Vehicle and Driver Registration and Licensing) Act 1986, which relates to applications for registration of a motor vehicle. The amendments relate to vehicle identification inspection certificates. Section 5(3) enables the Registrar to require an applicant to produce evidence that such a certificate has been issued in respect of the vehicle in the previous 30 days. Section 5(4) requires an applicant to produce to the Registrar such a certificate as a prerequisite to the registration, relicensing, or change of ownership of a vehicle.

Section 9(2) amends section 10 of that Act, which relates to applications for a motor vehicle licence. The amendment enables the Registrar to require an applicant to produce evidence that a vehicle identification inspection certificate has been issued in respect of the vehicle.
