This order is administered by the Ministry for Primary Industries.

Pursuant to section 54B(1) of the Fisheries Act 1983, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting on the recommendation of the Minister of Fisheries, and by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following order.


1 Title and commencement
  • (1) This order may be cited as the Fisheries (Maketu Taiapure) Order 1996.

    (2) This order shall come into force on the 28th day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

2 Maketu taiapure constituted
  • The New Zealand fisheries waters (being estuarine or littoral coastal waters) described in the Schedule are hereby declared to be a taiapure-local fishery.

  • Schedule: replaced, on 21 February 2014, by clause 4 of the Fisheries (Maketu Taiapure) Amendment Order 2014 (LI 2014/18).

All that area of New Zealand fisheries waters enclosed by a line—

  • (a) commencing at the original mouth of the Wairakei Stream at the north-western corner of Taylor Reserve, Papamoa (at 37°42.74′S and 176°19.93′E); then

  • (b) proceeding to a point at 37°42.10′S and 176°20.43′E; then

  • (c) proceeding generally parallel to the mean high-water mark to a point at 37°44.48′S and 176°26.03′E; then

  • (d) proceeding as part of the circumference of a circle with its centre at Okurei Point (at 37°44.46′S and 176°28.08′E) with a radius of 3 000 metres to a point at 37°45.48′S and 176°29.67′E; then

  • (e) proceeding generally parallel to the mean high-water mark to a point at 37°48.95′S and 176°36.07′E; then

  • (f) proceeding to a point at 37°49.77′S and 176°36.18′E; then

  • (g) proceeding along the mean high-water mark, including the tidal waters of Waihi Estuary and Maketu Estuary, to the point of commencement.
