Fisheries (South-East Area Commercial Fishing) Amendment Regulations 1997

PURSUANT to section 89 of the Fisheries Act 1983 and sections 297 and 298 of the Fisheries Act 1996, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, makes the following regulations.

1 Title and commencement
2 Closed season for Chatham Islands rock lobster fishery
  • The principal regulations are amended by inserting, after regulation 8A, the following regulation:

    8B
    • No commercial fisher may—

      • (a) Take any rock lobster from the waters of the Chatham Islands rock lobster fishery during the months of March and April in any year; or

      • (b) Fish using any rock lobster pot in those waters during those months; or

      • (c) Be in possession of any rock lobster that is taken from those waters during those months.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.

These regulations amend the Fisheries (South-East Area Commercial Fishing) Regulations 1986 by imposing an annual closure of the Chatham Islands rock lobster fishery during the months of March and April.
