PURSUANT to section 87(2) of the Biosecurity Act 1993, His Excellency the Administrator of the Government, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, makes the following order.

1 Title and commencement
  • (1) This order may be cited as the Biosecurity (Otago Regional Rabbit Pest Management Strategy (Including Hares and Chinchillas)) Crown Obligations Order 1998.

    (2) This order comes into force on 10 July 1998.

2 Interpretation
  • In this order, unless the context otherwise requires,—

    Financial year has the same meaning as in section 2(1) of the Public Finance Act 1989

    General administrative functions means setting standards, inspection, enforcement, monitoring, surveillance, provision of advice or information, education, direct control (including biological control) of pests, research into biological control, administration, or management

    Otago Regional Rabbit Pest Management Strategy (Including Hares and Chinchillas) means the pest management strategy approved by the Otago Regional Council on 27 March 1996.

3 Pest control on land administered by Department of Conservation
  • The Otago Regional Pest Management Strategy (Including Hares and Chinchillas) applies to the Crown to the extent that the Crown must,—

    • (a) So far as is practicable, carry out work in relation to rabbits in accordance with that strategy on land owned by the Crown and administered by the Department of Conservation under the Conservation Act 1987 or under any Act listed in Schedule 1 of the Conservation Act 1987

      • (i) To the value of $130,900 in the financial year commencing on 1 July 1998:

      • (ii) To the value of $139,100 in the financial year commencing on 1 July 1999:

      • (iii) To the value of $147,100 in the financial year commencing on 1 July 2000:

    • (b) Pay the amount of $18,600 each financial year to the Otago Regional Council for the general administrative functions as specified in that strategy.

4 Application of order
  • This order applies to the financial years commencing on 1 July 1998, 1 July 1999, and 1 July 2000.

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order, which comes into force on 10 July 1998, sets out the Crown's obligations in respect of the Otago Regional Rabbit Pest Management Strategy (Including Hares and Chinchillas).
