Misuse of Drugs Amendment Act 1998 Commencement Order 1999

PURSUANT to section 1(3) of the Misuse of Drugs Amendment Act 1998, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, makes the following order.

1 Title
  • This order may be cited as the Misuse of Drugs Amendment Act 1998 Commencement Order 1999.

2 Commencement of sections 9 and 10 of Misuse of Drugs Amendment Act 1998

Explanatory note

This Note is not part the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order brings into force, on 16 March 1999, sections 9 and 10 of the Misuse of Drugs Amendment Act 1998.

Sections 9 and 10 amend the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975. The amendments are to implement in the law of New Zealand aspects of the United Nations Convention Against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances.

An instrument of ratification of the Convention was deposited on behalf of New Zealand on 16 December 1998. The Convention enters into force for New Zealand on 16 March 1999.
