Pursuant to section 1(2) of the Tokelau (Territorial Sea and Exclusive Economic Zone) Amendment Act 1999, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council, makes the following order.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order brings the Tokelau (Territorial Sea and Exclusive Economic Zone) Amendment Act 1999 into force on 1 May 2001. The Act empowers regulations imposing civil penalties for breaches of regulations governing foreign fishing activities within the exclusive economic zone and provides for regulations to govern the use of Tokelauan fishing vessels outside the exclusive economic zone (high seas fishing).

The amendments will be brought into force at the same time as Part 6A of the Fisheries Act 1996, which relates to high seas fishing.
