This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.
This regulation, which comes into force on the 28th day after the date of its notification in the Gazette, amends the definition of commercial fisherman to include the words
“commercial fisher”, which has been used in amending regulations to reflect a gender-neutral drafting style.
The amendment ensures that, regardless of the terminology used, the regulation applies to those who fish commercially, whether they are holders of a fishing permit or are fishing under the authority of another person's permit.
The amendments to regulation 9(2) correct an error in 1 of the co-ordinates defining the area closed to commercial set netters in Wellington Harbour, and also correct the reference to Somes Island to include the Maori name, as confirmed by the Minister of Land Information under section 13 of the New Zealand Geographic Board Act 1946 and notified in the Gazette 1997, page 1403.
