Parole Act Commencement Order 2002


This order is administered in the Ministry of Justice and the Department of Corrections.

Pursuant to section 2(1) of the Parole Act 2002, Her Excellency the Governor-General, acting on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council, makes the following order.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order brings into force, on 30 June 2002, the Parole Act 2002, except section 99 (which came into force on the day after the date on which the Act received the Royal assent).

The purpose of the Act is to reform the law relating to the release from detention of offenders serving sentences of imprisonment, and to replace the provisions of Parts 4 and 6 of the Criminal Justice Act 1985.
