This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.
These regulations, which amend the Fisheries (Southland and Sub-Antarctic Areas Commercial Fishing) Amendment Regulations 2002, come into force on 1 October 2002. The amendments are needed to accommodate the inclusion of various species in the quota management system.
Regulation 3 inserts new regulation 3BA that prohibits commercial trawling for queen scallops with a net mesh less than 50 mm.
Regulations 4, 5, and 6 remove the commercial catch limits for butterfish, kina, and paddle crab.
Regulation 7 removes a fishing method restriction for paddle crab.
Regulation 8 adjusts the offences to reflect the changes.
