Explanatory note

This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.

These regulations, which come into force on 1 September 2003, amend the fees payable for various passport services under the Passport (Fees) Regulations 1996. The fees for the issue of a passport are reduced. Some callout fees are increased, and 1 callout fee and the fee for the issue or extension of a certificate of identity are reduced. The fee for renewal of a passport under section 6(2) of the Act is removed.

Regulation 3 amends regulation 3(3) of the principal regulations to make it clear that, in the case of references in that provision to persons who are not New Zealand citizens ordinarily resident in the relevant Pacific Island, the word “not” is intended to relate to a person’s residence status, and not to his or her citizenship.

Issued under the authority of the Legislation Act 2012.
