Fisheries (Challenger Area Amateur Fishing) Amendment Regulations 2003

These regulations are administered in the Ministry for Primary Industries.


Pursuant to section 297 of the Fisheries Act 1996, Her Excellency the Governor-General, acting on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council, makes the following regulations.

1 Title
2 Commencement
  • These regulations come into force on 1 October 2003.

3 Maximum daily number of fish
  • (1) Regulation 2B(3) of the principal regulations is amended by omitting the expression 6 in each place where it occurs, and substituting in each case the expression 3.

    (2) Regulation 2B(3A) of the principal regulations is amended by omitting the expression 10 in each place where it occurs, and substituting in each case the expression 3.

4 Minimum size for blue cod in Marlborough Sounds Area
  • Regulation 2C of the principal regulations is amended by omitting the expression 28, and substituting the expression 30.

5 New regulation 2D inserted
  • The principal regulations are amended by inserting, after regulation 2C, the following regulation:

    2D Minimum size for blue cod in Challenger (East) Area
    • Despite regulation 6 of the Fisheries (Amateur Fishing) Regulations 1986, no person may take from or possess in the Challenger (East) Area any blue cod that is less than 30 cm in length.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.

These regulations, which come into force on 1 October 2003, amend the Fisheries (Challenger Area Amateur Fishing) Regulations 1986.

The amendments—

  • reduce from 6 to 3 the number of blue cod that may be taken or possessed in the Marlborough Sounds Area:

  • reduce from 10 to 3 the number of blue cod that may be taken or possessed in the Challenger (East) Area:

  • increase from 28 cm to 30 cm the minimum size for taking or possessing blue cod in the Marlborough Sounds Area:

  • insert a prohibition on taking or possessing blue cod in the Challenger (East) Area of less than 30 cm in length.
