Gambling Act Commencement Order 2003


Note

This order is administered in the Department of Internal Affairs.


Pursuant to section 2 of the Gambling Act 2003, Her Excellency the Administrator of the Government, acting on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council, makes the following order.

1 Title
  • This order is the Gambling Act Commencement Order 2003.

2 Commencement
  • (1) The following provisions of the Act come into force on the 28th day after the date of the notification of this order in the Gazette:

    • (b) section 4(1), so far as it relates to those sections.

    (2) The following provisions of the Act come into force on 1 March 2004:

    • (b) section 4(1), so far as it relates to those sections.

    (3) The rest of the Act, except for section 374 so far as it relates to the items in Schedule 9 relating to the Tax Administration Act 1994, comes into force on 1 July 2004.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order brings provisions of the Gambling Act 2003 (the Act) into force.

Some provisions are already in force. This order brings most of the rest of the Act into force.

Provisions on the following matters come into force 28 days after notification of this order in the Gazette:

  • the prohibition' on advertising overseas gambling:

  • the relationship between the Act and the Gaming and Lotteries Act 1977, in respect of any inconsistency between the 2 Acts.

Provisions establishing the Gambling Commission, and its function relating to the problem gambling levy, come into force on 1 March 2004.

The rest of the Act, except for amendments to the Tax Administration Act 1994, comes into force on 1 July 2004.
