Traffic Amendment Regulations (No 2) 2004


Note

These regulations are administered in the Ministry of Transport.


Pursuant to section 218 of the Land Transport Act 1998, Her Excellency the Governor-General, acting on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council, makes the following regulations.

1 Title
  • (1) These regulations are the Traffic Amendment Regulations (No 2) 2004.

    (2) In these regulations, the Traffic Regulations 19761 are called the principal regulations.

2 Commencement
  • These regulations come into force on 3 May 2004.

3 Speed limits
  • (1) Regulation 21(5) of the principal regulations is amended by omitting the words Except in the case of combinations of vehicles to which subclause (5A) of this regulation applies, and substituting the words Subject to subclause (5A).

    (2) Regulation 21 of the principal regulations is amended by revoking subclause (5A), and substituting the following subclause:

    • (5A) A person must not drive on a road at a speed exceeding 90 kilometres an hour a heavy motor vehicle that is being used to tow

      • (a) a trailer or trailers (including a semi-trailer or semi-trailers); or

      • (b) a vehicle (other than a motorcycle) normally propelled by mechanical power.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.

These regulations, which come into force on 3 May 2004, amend the Traffic Regulations 1976 by increasing the speed limit from 80 to 90 kilometres an hour for heavy motor vehicles towing a trailer or trailers (including a semi-trailer or semi-trailers) or towing a vehicle (other than a motorcycle) normally propelled by mechanical power.
