Traffic Amendment Regulations (No 3) 2004


Note

These regulations are administered in the Ministry of Transport.


Pursuant to sections 167 and 218 of the Land Transport Act 1998, Her Excellency the Governor-General, acting on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council, makes the following regulations.

1 Title
  • (1) These regulations are the Traffic Amendment Regulations (No 3) 2004.

    (2) In these regulations, the Traffic Regulations 19761 are called the principal regulations.

2 Commencement
  • (1) Regulations 4 and 5(c) come into force on 1 April 2005.

    (2) The rest of these regulations come into force on 27 February 2005.

3 Interpretation
  • Regulation 2 of the principal regulations is amended by—

    • (a) revoking the definitions of pedestrian crossing, school crossing point, and traffic sign ; and

    • (b) omitting from the definition of roadway the words ; and for the purposes of Part 8 of these regulations includes a public cycle track constituted under section 176 of the Municipal Corporations Act 1954 or under section 197 of the Counties Act 1956.

4 Couplings
  • (1) Regulation 83(1) of the principal regulations is amended by revoking paragraph (a).

    (2) Regulation 83(1)(b) of the principal regulations is amended by omitting the words 2 000 kg is safely and securely attached to the vehicle in front of it by an adequate coupling and, and substituting the expression 3 500 kg.

    (3) The proviso to regulation 83 of the principal regulations is revoked.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.

These regulations amend the Traffic Regulations 1976. Regulations 4 and 5(c) come into force on 1 April 2005. The rest of these regulations come into force on 27 February 2005. The amendments revoke the regulations that the Land Transport (Road User) Rule 2004 and the following Land Transport Rules have replaced:

  • Heavy Vehicles 2004 (31002):

  • Traffic Control Devices 2004 (54002):

  • Vehicle Equipment 2004 (32017):

  • Vehicle Lighting 2004 (32005).
