Corrections Act Commencement Order 2005


This order is administered in the Department of Corrections.

Pursuant to section 2(1) of the Corrections Act 2004, Her Excellency the Governor-General, acting on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council, makes the following order.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order brings into force, on 1 June 2005, the Corrections Act 2004, except sections 182A to 182E (which came into force on 7 July 2004) and sections 200 to 203 (which came into force on the day after the date on which the Act received the Royal assent).

The purpose of the Act is to provide a new legal framework for the corrections system that covers the administration of custodial sentences and remands, community-based sentences, home detention, and parole.
