Changes authorised by section 17C of the Acts and Regulations Publication Act 1989 have been made in this eprint.

  • Preamble

At Wellington this 11th day of December 2006

Pursuant to section 3(1)(b) of the Civil List Act 1979, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council, makes the following order.

1 Title
  • This order is the Civil List Order 2006.

2 Commencement
  • This order is deemed to have come into force on 1 October 2006.

3 Allowance of Governor-General
  • The allowance for expenses that is payable to the Governor-General under section 3(1)(b) of the Civil List Act 1979 is payable at the rate of $173,816 a year.

4 Revocation
  • The Civil List Order 2005 (SR 2005/311) is revoked.

Rebecca Kitteridge,

for Clerk of the Executive Council.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order, which is deemed to have come into force on 1 October 2006, increases the rate at which the Governor-General's allowance for expenses is payable from $150,291 a year to $173,816 a year.

The increase has been calculated as follows:

  • an adjustment to last year's allowance on the basis of the Consumers Price Index increase of 3.5% between September 2005 and September 2006. This results in last year's allowance increasing to $155,616:

  • the inclusion of a clothing grant of $18,200. A separate clothing grant has been paid to Governors-General for many years. The amount has been determined on an ad hoc basis by the Prime Minister of the time. It is now appropriate to treat this grant as part of the general allowance under the Civil List Act 1979.

Issued under the authority of the Acts and Regulations Publication Act 1989.

Date of notification in Gazette: 14 December 2006.
