Pursuant to section 87 of the Student Loan Scheme Act 1992, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council, makes the following regulations.

1 Title
  • These regulations are the Student Loan Scheme (Charitable Organisations) Amendment Regulations 2007.

2 Commencement
  • These regulations come into force on 1 April 2007.

  • The Schedule of the principal regulations is amended by inserting the following organisations in their appropriate alphabetical order:

    Bright Hope International Trust

    Interserve (NZ)

    Mission Aviation Fellowship of New Zealand Incorporated

    National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'is of New Zealand

    NET Ministries (National Evangelization Teams)

    OMF New Zealand

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.

These regulations, which come into force on 1 April 2007, amend the Student Loan Scheme (Charitable Organisations) Regulations 2006 by adding 6 more organisations to the list of organisations in the Schedule of those regulations that are charitable organisations for the purposes of section 38AE(1)(b) of the Student Loan Scheme Act 1992. Under that section, a student loan borrower who was personally absent from New Zealand because he or she was working as a volunteer or for token payment for a named charitable organisation may be granted an exemption by the Commissioner of Inland Revenue entitling that borrower to a full interest write-off.
