Explanatory memorandum

This note is not part of the determination, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This determination is deemed to have come into force on 1 April 2007. It increases the rate of the annuity payable to a former Governor-General and the rate of the annuity payable to the surviving spouse or partner of a former Governor-General.

The rates applying before this determination were fixed, as at 1 April 2006, by the Civil List (Annuities) Determination 2006, which expired on 31 March 2007.

In the case of a former Governor-General who held office for a total period of less than 2 complete years, the yearly rate of the annuity is increased from $11,370 to $11,820, and, in the case of a surviving spouse or partner of that person, from $5,690 to $5,910.

In the case of a former Governor-General who held office for a total period of 2 complete years or more, the sum of $11,370 payable for each complete year (not exceeding 5) is increased to $11,820, and, in the case of a surviving spouse or partner of that person, from $5,690 to $5,910.

This determination expires on 31 March 2008.
