Fisheries (Pukerua Bay Temporary Closure) Notice 2007

This notice is administered by the Ministry of Fisheries.


Pursuant to section 186A of the Fisheries Act 1996, the Minister of Fisheries gives the following notice.

1 Title
  • This notice is the Fisheries (Pukerua Bay Temporary Closure) Notice 2007.

2 Commencement
  • This notice comes into force on 8 June 2007.

3 Expiry
  • This notice expires with the close of 7 June 2009.

4 Interpretation
  • (1) In this notice, Pukerua Bay means that area of New Zealand fisheries waters that lies within an area defined by a line that—

    • (a) commences at a point on the coastline east of Wairaka Point (at 41°01.84′S and 174°52.26′E); then

    • (b) proceeds north to a prominent rock (at 41°01.68′S and 174°52.26′E); then

    • (c) proceeds generally northeast to a point on the coastline (at 41°00.94′S and 174°54.96′E); then

    • (d) proceeds generally southwest following the coastline to the point of commencement.

    (2) In subclause (1), the geographical co-ordinates are in terms of WGS84 datum.

5 Area closed for taking of fish, aquatic life, and seaweed except by hand-held line
  • While this notice is in force, no person may take fish, aquatic life, or seaweed from Pukerua Bay, except by the method of a hand-held line.

6 Revocation
  • The Fisheries (Pukerua Bay Closure) Notice 2004 (SR 2004/429) is revoked.

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice comes into force on 8 June 2007 and expires with the close of 7 June 2009.

While this notice is in force, it bans the taking of fish, aquatic life, and seaweed from Pukerua Bay, except by hand-held line.
