Sentencing Amendment Act 2007 Commencement Order 2007

  • Preamble

    At Wellington this 27th day of August 2007

Pursuant to section 2 of the Sentencing Amendment Act 2007, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council, makes the following order.

1 Title
  • This order is the Sentencing Amendment Act 2007 Commencement Order 2007.

2 Commencement of Sentencing Amendment Act 2007
  • The following provisions of the Sentencing Amendment Act 2007 come into force on 1 October 2007:

    • (a) sections 1 to 4:

    • (b) section 6(2):

    • (c) sections 7 to 11:

    • (d) sections 13 and 14:

    • (e) sections 16 to 44:

    • (f) sections 47 and 48:

    • (g) section 49(4):

    • (h) sections 50 and 51:

    • (i) sections 55 to 58:

    • (j) the Schedule.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order brings most of the provisions of the Sentencing Amendment Act 2007 into force on 1 October 2007. The remaining provisions relate to the Sentencing Council and the change in the threshold for short-term and long-term sentences of imprisonment. These remaining provisions will come into force to coincide with the enactment of the Sentencing Council Act 2007 and the relevant provisions of the Parole Amendment Act 2007, respectively.
