Pursuant to section 48(2) of the Fire Service Act 1975, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council, makes the following order.

Order

1 Title

This order is the Fire Service Levy Amendment Order 2008.

2 Commencement

This order comes into force on 1 July 2008.

3 Principal order amended

This order amends the Fire Service Levy Order 1993.

4 Rate of levy

(1)

Clause 2(a)(i) is amended by omitting “$5.84” and substituting “$6.08”.

(2)

Clause 2(b)(i) is amended by omitting “7.30 cents” and substituting “7.60 cents”.

5 Revocation

The Fire Service Levy Amendment Order 2000 (SR 2000/260) is revoked.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order, which comes into force on 1 July 2008, increases the rates of levy payable to the New Zealand Fire Service Commission by insurance companies with which property is insured against fire under contracts of fire insurance made in New Zealand.

The increases are as follows:

  • the levy rate for motor vehicles (other than motor vehicles with a gross laden weight greater than 3.5 tonnes) is increased from $5.84 to $6.08:

  • the levy rate for other insured property is increased from 7.3 cents to 7.6 cents for every $100 insured.
