Pursuant to section 186A of the Fisheries Act 1996, the Minister of Fisheries gives the following notice.
This notice is the Fisheries (Umupuia Beach Temporary Closure) Notice 2008.
This notice comes into force on 16 October 2008.
This notice expires on 15 October 2010.
(1) No person may take cockles from Umupuia Beach while this notice is in force.
(2) In this clause,—
cockle means the mollusc Austrovenus stutchburyi
Umupuia Beach means that area of New Zealand fisheries waters that lies within an area bounded by a line that—
(a) commences at the mean high-water springs at Te Puea at the western end of the beach known as Umupuia Beach (at 36°53.77′S and 175°05.82′E); then
(b) proceeds in a straight line in a south-easterly direction to Whakakaiwhara Point (at 36°54.05′S and 175°05.88′E); then
(c) proceeds along the mean high-water springs to the point of commencement.

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.
This notice, which comes into force on 16 October 2008, prohibits the taking of cockles from Umupuia Beach for a period of 2 years.
