This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.
These regulations, which come into force on the 28th day after the date of their notification in the Gazette, amend the United Nations Sanctions (Kimberley Process) Regulations 2004. These amendments add Côte d'Ivoire to, and omit Liberia and Sierra Leone from, the list of countries that are subject to conflict diamonds trade-ban measures.
Côte d'Ivoire is added in accordance with paragraph 6 of resolution 1643 (2005) of the Security Council of the United Nations, adopted pursuant to the United Nations Charter on 15 December 2005. Liberia is omitted in accordance with paragraph 1 of resolution 1753 (2007) of the Security Council of the United Nations, adopted pursuant to the United Nations Charter on 27 April 2007. Sierra Leone is omitted in accordance with the expiry of the embargo renewed by paragraph 2 of resolution 1446 (2002) of the Security Council of the United Nations, adopted pursuant to the United Nations Charter on 4 December 2002.
