Description of Joint Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine Maintenance of Professional Standards Program

1 Interpretation
  • In this schedule, activity means the Joint Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine Maintenance of Professional Standards Program.

2 Objective
  • The objective of the activity is to improve the practices and competence of health practitioners enrolled in the activity by assessing the health services performed by those health practitioners.

3 Method
  • The activity is based on information derived from health practitioners enrolled in the activity.

4 Activity
  • The activity includes—

    • (a) auditing clinical practice by way of review and assessment of patient satisfaction surveys and randomly selected patient records, with particular focus on—

      • (i) clinical processes; and

      • (ii) patient care management; and

      • (iii) treatment outcomes; and

    • (b) assessing particular activities or interventions undertaken by health practitioners to determine whether the activities or interventions—

      • (i) were appropriate; and

      • (ii) were of excellent quality; and

      • (iii) gave satisfaction to patients; and

    • (c) reviewing clinical management; and

    • (d) holding—

      • (i) peer review meetings; and

      • (ii) morbidity and mortality meetings; and

    • (e) preparing documentation that summarises the results obtained under paragraphs (a) to (d); and

    • (f) making recommendations on how health practitioners who are engaging in the activity can improve their performance so as to—

      • (i) improve the quality of care they provide; and

      • (ii) reduce the incidence of adverse outcomes; and

    • (g) facilitating and monitoring the implementation of any such recommendations.
