This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.
These regulations, which come into force on 1 October 2009, amend regulations 2 and 3 of the Road User Charges Regulations 1978 (the principal regulations).
The definition of hubodometer in regulation 2 is amended to add the Abbott brand to the list of hubodometers prescribed for the purposes of the principal regulations.
Regulation 3, which exempts certain vehicles from Part 1 of the Road User Charges Act 1977 (which sets out the requirement to pay road user charges), is amended by adding new regulation 3(1)(d) and (2). The effect of the amendments is to exempt light electric motor vehicles whose motive power is wholly or partly derived from electricity from an external source and whose gross laden weight is 3.5 tonnes or less from the requirement to pay road user charges until the close of 30 June 2013.
